The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, popularly known as the Old Bailey, has set June 3 for the trial of Marcus Monzo, a 37-year-old Spanish-Brazilian man.
Monzo, who describes himself as a “mystic musician,” has been charged with the alleged murder of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, a Nigerian boy.
The incident occurred on April 30, 2024, in Hainault, North-East London, where Daniel was attacked with two Japanese knives while on his way to school.
The alleged attack left the teenager fatally wounded, with severe slashes to his chest and neck.
Monzo was subsequently arrested and arraigned in connection with Daniel’s death. The upcoming trial at the Old Bailey will determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and Monzo’s involvement.
The case has drawn significant attention, and the trial is expected to shed more light on the details of the alleged crime.
According to reports from the British media, including the Daily Mail UK, Marcus Monzo faces multiple charges in connection with a violent attack that resulted in the death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin.
The charges include the murder of the teenager, as well as the attempted murders of four other individuals: Donato Iwule, Sindy Arias, Henry Polania, and Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield.
Additionally, Monzo is accused of wounding Police Inspector Moloy Campbell with intent. When Monzo appeared in court on Friday evening, he denied eight of the 10 charges brought against him.
However, he admitted to two counts of possessing offensive weapons, specifically a katana sword and a tanto katana sword.
Monzo also denied charges of aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article, related to a kitchen knife.
The defendant’s not-guilty pleas set the stage for a trial that will examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged crimes and determine his culpability. The case is scheduled to proceed to trial on June 3 at the Old Bailey.
According to court proceedings, Marcus Monzo allegedly crashed a van into a fence in Laing Close on April 30, 2024, striking a pedestrian, Donato Iwule.
Witnesses reported seeing Monzo wielding a knife and attacking pedestrians at the scene, resulting in the fatal injury of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin. Anjorin was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
