Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara made a notable public appearance at the Boys Brigade Metropolitan Battalion Council Nigeria’s 2025 Thanksgiving Service.
The event, held at St. Cyprian’s Church, Anglican Communion in Port Harcourt, marked the successful conclusion of the organization’s religious camp activities in the state.
Fubara, who had been on a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom, returned to Port Harcourt on Friday at 7PM, he arrived at the international terminal of the Port Harcourt International Airport, which is located in Omagwa, and this marks his first public appearance since his return.
The Thanksgiving Service was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja.
According to a statement by Nelson Chukwudi, the suspended governor’s media aide, Fubara’s presence at the event highlights his connection with the Boys Brigade and his support for their initiatives in the state.
The governor’s appearance comes amid his suspension, and it remains to be seen how this will impact his political future.
The highlight of the Thanksgiving Service was a special prayer for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his family, and the peace of Rivers State.
Fubara was accompanied to the service by Amaopusenibo Fubara Hart and Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja. This public appearance comes at a time when tensions between Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, seem to be escalating.
Just as Fubara returned from a two-week vacation in the UK, Wike accused him of sponsoring disruptions at an empowerment program for women in Port Harcourt organized by the office of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
This development may have complicated ongoing efforts to broker peace and reconciliation between the two political figures, casting uncertainty over the future of their relationship and the stability of Rivers State’s political landscape.
