Kenyan runners dominated the inaugural Enugu City International Marathon, with Koros Ken clinching the overall title and a $15,000 prize.
The event, marked by fierce competition and vibrant participation, saw Kenyans securing top spots in both men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s race, Steve Rasway of Kenya took second place, earning $10,000, while Bernard Sang, also Kenyan, claimed third with $5,000. The women’s category mirrored this success, with Kenya’s Shauline Chepkiru Koech winning the first prize.
Among Nigerian competitors, Davou Ezekiel from Jos emerged as the top indigenous runner, securing a ₦3 million prize. The marathon, which drew over 100 international elite athletes and thousands of Nigerian runners, exceeded expectations with its world-class organization and enthusiastic turnout.
Governor Peter Mbah, who added flair by competing in the 10km race, praised the event’s success. “This race showcases the power of sports to unite and inspire our youth. We’re motivated to make next year’s edition even bigger,” he said.
