Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he intends to take a break from football when he eventually leaves the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola, who signed a new contract with City in November that will keep him at the club until June 2027, expressed his certainty about stepping away from the sport.

“After my contract with City, I’m going to stop. I am sure. I don’t know if I’m going to retire, but I’m going to take a break,” Guardiola told ESPN Brasil. This statement has sparked speculation about his future plans after managing Manchester City for over a decade.

Guardiola’s illustrious career has seen him win 18 major trophies with City, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. Despite his achievements, Guardiola emphasized that what matters most is not how people remember him but the impact he’s had on the sport.

“I want to be remembered, I don’t know. I want people to remember me however they want. All coaches want to win so we can have a memorable job, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City have had fun watching my teams play,” he added.

The Spaniard also reflected on the nature of memory and legacy in football. “When we die, our families cry for two or three days and then that’s it, you’re forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer.”

Guardiola’s comments suggest a desire to step back and reassess his priorities after his time at Manchester City comes to an end. While he hasn’t ruled out returning to management in the future, his current mindset is focused on taking a break and potentially exploring other interests.

Under Guardiola’s guidance, Manchester City has become one of the dominant forces in English football, consistently competing for top honors and delivering entertaining football. His influence on the sport extends beyond his tactical acumen, as he has inspired a generation of players and coaches with his approach to the game.

As Guardiola continues to lead Manchester City, his focus remains on the present moment, driving his team to success in the Premier League and European competitions. With his contract extension, he has provided stability and continuity for the club, allowing them to plan for the future with confidence.
