Fubara arrived at the international terminal of the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, who was suspended from office, has returned to the state after spending two weeks away on holiday abroad.

Approximately 7pm on Friday evening, he arrived at the international terminal of the Port Harcourt International Airport, which is located in Omagwa.

In a video that has gone viral, Fubara is shown being greeted by a few of his aides at the airport.  An escort led him to a Sports Utility Vehicle that was waiting for him, and the vehicle took off without delay.

During his two weeks vacation, IREPORT247NEW reported on April 23 that  Fubara met with President Bola Tinubu in London. The Africa Report confirmed that Governor Fubara, who took office in May 2023, insisted on the meeting.

That was the first in-person meeting since Tinubu removed Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, from office on March 18 by using Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, which declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The presidential aides who spoke on condition of anonymity, the discussions centered on the prospect of Fubara taking office again before the end of his six-month ban, though neither side provided specifics.

“It is true. Governor Fubara held a private meeting with the president last week.

“Fubara has promised to make some compromises. Negotiations are ongoing, but from all indications, his suspension will be lifted before the six-month deadline.”

Also, Fubara has met with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in a move that is being described by sources as an attempt to put political differences behind them.

According to sources, the meeting was held behind closed doors at Wike’s villa in Abuja. It was facilitated by prominent political leaders, such as State Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and former Governor Olusegun Osoba of Ogun State.

Fubara, upon his arrival, reportedly marched straight into Wike’s living room, which is a location that he is claimed to be familiar with, and made an appeal to the minister in an effort to salvage the relationship between the two parties.

Whether or not the meeting would help break the present political deadlock was unclear to the source.

This news breaks as political tensions in Rivers State continue to rise.  Earlier, President Bola Tinubu appointed a Sole Administrator to oversee state business as he suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the whole state House of Assembly for six months.
