The nature of your demand for evidence in this manner, at the instance of your client, simply indicates a broader misconception of what truly amounts to sexual harassment as prescribed in several global protocols
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central), who was suspended from her position as chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, has spoken out once again, this time stating that she will continue to sue Senate President Godswill Akpabio for sexual harassment.
She believes that the matter should be resolved in court. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote to Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, Akpabio’s lawyer, on April 30, 2025, to inform him that the sexual harassment claims she had made were true and that she would step back from commenting further so that the court could decide the matter.
The current legal conflict originated with a lawsuit filed by Unoma Akpabio, who is Akpabio’s wife, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court. In response to Agbakoba’s request for proof outside of the court system, Akpoti-Uduaghan spoke out against the action, calling it an example of a basic lack of knowledge of the laws controlling sexual harassment.
“The assessment of evidence belongs to the courts alone. The nature of your demand for evidence in this manner, at the instance of your client, simply indicates a broader misconception of what truly amounts to sexual harassment as prescribed in several global protocols.
“Any further particulars required will be furnished in the ordinary course of disclosure, subject to the direction of the courts. Attempts to circumvent this regulated process risk undermining the rule of law.”
While criticizing Akpabio’s decision to go to the media for proof, Akpoti-Uduaghan said that Akpabio had used his privileged position to prevent the matter from being discussed in the Senate before. She firmly stated, “This contradiction is irreconcilable,” reiterating her determination to handle the situation within the legal framework.
Recall that Natasha accused Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, of sexually harassing her, and she ultimately lost her Senate seat due to extremely serious wrongdoing in the aftermath of the scandal.
Natasha claimed that the purpose of her suspension was to silence her regarding the sexual harassment complaint. She claimed this during a meeting of the IPU.
