Transgender women will be barred from playing in women’s football in England starting June 1, the Football Association (FA) announced.

The decision follows a UK Supreme Court ruling on April 15, which defined a woman’s legal status based on biological sex.

The FA had initially revised its rules on April 11, introducing stricter eligibility criteria for transgender women in women’s football at all levels.

However, the Supreme Court’s ruling prompted the FA to abandon this policy, restricting participation to those born biologically female.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is also expected to follow suit.

After seeking legal advice in light of the same ruling, the ECB is anticipated to amend its transgender policy at a board meeting on Friday, likely banning transgender women from women’s cricket.
