The people of Delta will return. The will of the people is what matters in politics.

The former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George has voiced optimism that PDP will bounce back and even thrive following its National Executive Committee meeting on May 15, despite growing concerns about high-profile defections from the party.

George addressed worries over the recent mass evacuation of party members from Delta State, including defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, Monday Onyeme, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all 25 local government chairmen, during his appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television on Friday.

George said, “A date has been fixed for our NEC meeting and after that meeting, you will see that this same Iroko tree, the political Iroko tree, will bounce back.”

George said that leaving a platform that honored you was a nasty and disgusting thing to do, and that the Delta defections were no exception.

His displeasure stems from actions that he perceives as being motivated by selfishness. George seemed unconcerned when asked about the weight of high-profile defections like Okowa’s, who ran for vice president in the previous general election.

He said, “It is an experience. We have gone through this before. It is not a threat. Because something happened doesn’t mean it is fixated or it is finality.

“This is absolute politics. You’ll wait and see that the people of Delta will return. The will of the people is what matters in politics.

“The fact that these guys moved en masse… the people of Delta are waiting. Because what impact has the APC, as a government, given to the people.

“There is hunger in the land. There is anger in the land. What do you think they are going to do there? If it is not a personal embellishment, what are they going to do there?”

A warning was also given by George regarding the potential repercussions of manipulating the electoral process in the future.

He said, “If we lose, we hands off. But if we win and you manipulate the results, you are looking for an unimaginable conflagration. And we cannot afford that.”
