Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has clarified the situation surrounding Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, stating that there are currently no active negotiations with several clubs recently linked to the Belgian star. Romano, in a statement on Saturday via X, said that Italian side Como have “not made contact to sign Kevin De Bruyne”, contrary to recent reports suggesting otherwise.
He further dismissed ongoing speculation linking De Bruyne to a return to Chelsea or a potential move to MLS side Inter Miami, confirming that there is “no confirmation on negotiations” with either club. However, Romano revealed that a proposal from Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, which was first reported 10 days ago, “remains on the table” for De Bruyne as discussions around his future continue.
Earlier this month, De Bruyne announced that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, bringing an end to a decade-long spell at the club that has seen him win every major trophy available. In an open letter to fans via his social media on Friday, the Belgian midfielder confirmed that these would be his final months at the Etihad Stadium.
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here—and you deserve to hear it from me first,” De Bruyne stated. Reflecting on his time in Manchester, De Bruyne credited the city and its people for transforming his life.
With De Bruyne’s departure from Manchester City imminent, the speculation surrounding his future continues. While the Chicago Fire’s proposal remains an option, there are currently no active talks with other clubs. As the transfer window remains open, De Bruyne’s future will likely become clearer in the coming weeks. For now, he will focus on his remaining matches with Manchester City, looking to end his decade-long stint on a high note.
