The world football governing body, FIFA, has imposed a new transfer ban on Egyptian football giants Zamalek for failing to settle outstanding dues to an unnamed individual. According to the club, the ban is linked to Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaib, who Zamalek still owes €983,000 in unpaid dues.
Zamalek board member Amr Adham revealed that the club had already settled a significant portion of Boutaib’s entitlements, initially totalling approximately €2.4 million. However, the club failed to pay the remaining instalments in recent months, leading to FIFA reimposing a transfer ban on the club.
“We plan to clear Boutaib’s outstanding dues before the summer transfer window opens for the new season,” Adham said, emphasizing the club’s commitment to resolving the issue.
This is not the first time Zamalek has faced a transfer ban. Last year, the club was hit with a three-period ban due to Boutaib’s outstanding dues. The club has also faced similar sanctions in the past, including a two-period registration ban related to their ex-head coach, Cristian Gross, and a ban linked to unpaid dues for a former assistant coach under ex-manager Jesualdo Ferreira.
Financial Disputes Plague Zamalek
The latest ban highlights the financial struggles faced by Zamalek, despite recent efforts to resolve financial liabilities under new management. The club’s recurring disputes with former players and coaches have led to repeated sanctions, affecting their ability to strengthen their squad.
FIFA’s list of banned clubs also includes other Egyptian teams, such as Pyramids FC, Pharco FC, Ismaily, Aswan, Eastern Company, and Wadi Degla.
Conclusion
The transfer ban will undoubtedly pose a challenge for Zamalek as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The club’s ability to resolve their financial disputes and comply with FIFA regulations will be crucial in determining their future success.
