The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the launch of a full-scale investigation into the death of Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export. The high-ranking state official reportedly died in the early hours of Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, after what was initially described as a brief illness.
Chief Shimite, a prominent figure in Delta State’s economic development circle, was known for her efforts to boost local trade and promote export opportunities for indigenous entrepreneurs. Her sudden demise has raised several questions, prompting the police to initiate a deeper inquiry into the circumstances leading to her death.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, the deceased was confirmed dead at a medical facility shortly after being brought in for emergency care. While initial reports attributed her passing to a sudden illness, emerging developments have led the authorities to explore other possible causes.
“She was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was rushed to in the early hours of Monday,” Edafe stated. “However, based on subsequent developments and a formal complaint from the family, we have initiated an investigation.”
One of the most intriguing aspects of the unfolding story involves Shimite’s husband. Edafe revealed that it was her husband who contacted law enforcement to report the death, expressing concern over threats made against him by members of the deceased’s family.
“The husband reported the death and said he was receiving threats from her relatives. In response, we placed him in protective custody—not under arrest—to ensure his safety,” Edafe clarified.
Despite this precaution, suspicions within Shimite’s family have intensified. The family formally petitioned the police, alleging that the husband may have been involved in circumstances surrounding her death. The nature of these suspicions has not been disclosed, but the complaint has prompted a forensic examination of the case.
In response, the Delta State Police Command has confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death. “Only a postmortem examination can reveal whether her death was natural or otherwise,” Edafe explained.
As investigations progress, the late adviser’s death continues to send shockwaves across the Delta political landscape. Colleagues and stakeholders in the state’s trade sector have described her passing as a significant loss to ongoing economic initiatives in the region.
Governor Oborevwori is yet to issue a formal statement on the incident, but sources within the Government House in Asaba have disclosed that plans are underway to honor Shimite’s legacy with a state tribute.
The police have assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and transparent, with updates to be provided as findings unfold.
