Presidency has responded to the remarks of Pastor Tunde Bakare, founder of Citadel Global Community Church, on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership style in his Easter Sunday sermon.

The furious preacher issued a warning that the current administration is steering the polity adrift and situation in Nigeria had progressed beyond the domain of simple political misjudgments and had into the realm of “organized injustice and gangster governance.”

He said, “What we have seen since the beginning of the year is nothing short of a descent into tyranny, Bakare said.

“It is clear that our so-called leaders are determined to turn Nigeria into a mafia state. Citizens must rise, not just to watch, but to act. We must declare a state of emergency on this failing system.

“Tell Mr President to stop playing God and begin to govern with justice, humility, and the fear of the Almighty.”

In response to the remark, Daniel Bwala, special adviser to the president on policy communication, said that the president respects the clergyman’s right to free speech and that, although the administration disagrees with him on certain points, it finds his message encouraging and positive in general.

Bwala said, “Pastor Tunde Bakere @T_Bakare ‘s sermon and speech delivered this morning in form of a message to @officialABAT is quite objective.

“He gave his general opinion on events and decisions of government; He critiqued certain polities and applauded some; he further offered his suggestions on the way forward.

“Importantly, he acknowledged the successes and strides of the President and his administration.

“Although we differ with him in some areas and positions, but we respect his right to say his mind, and assure him as with many Nigerians that  President Tinubu is determined  to deliver on the promise to the Nigerian people.”
