Nigerians must rise and defend themselves. We cannot continue to sit and watch while bandits, terrorists, and criminal gangs massacre our people unchecked.

Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, former Nigeria’s Minister of Defense has encouraged the people of Nigeria to protect themselves from criminals and robbers.

During a public event that took place on Saturday, April 19, 2025 in Takum, Taraba State, Danjuma stated that the recent killings that have taken place in Benue, Plateau, and other regions of Nigeria have further proved that the government cannot be relied upon exclusively to safeguard its citizens.

Danjuma, a native of Takum, expressed his disappointment with the government’s security measures, saying that the people needed to take charge of their own safety.

He stated that his warning from five years ago is still applicable in light of the escalating wave of insecurity that is occurring across the country.

“The warning I gave some years ago is still as valid today as it was then. Nigerians must rise and defend themselves. We cannot continue to sit and watch while bandits, terrorists, and criminal gangs massacre our people unchecked.

“It is now very clear that the government alone cannot protect us. We must stand up and defend ourselves, our families, and our lands before these criminals overrun the entire country.”
