The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has fined Heartland Queens Football Club ₦1 million following an assault on match officials during their Premiership match against Remo Stars Ladies on April 16 at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The NWFL condemned the actions of Heartland Queens’ officials and supporters, labeling the incident a grave violation of fair play and respect for match officials.
According to a statement by NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi, the sanction was based on a detailed review of the match officials’ report and an investigation confirming unruly behavior during Match No. 92 of the 2024/2025 season.
Citing Article 26.1 of its regulations, the NWFL noted that any assault on match officials—whether physical, verbal, or through intimidation—carries a ₦1 million fine and potential bans. The league also warned that the venue could face a one-year ban for such offenses.
The NWFL urged Heartland Queens to educate their officials and fans on fair play, emphasizing that the fine aims to deter future misconduct.
This sanction aligns with the league’s ongoing efforts to curb violence and uphold the integrity of the game.
