I wanted the outright removal of Governor Fubara. The president, by declaring a state of emergency saved Fubara

Nyesom Wike, minister of the FCT, has come clean about his desire to have Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara removed from office.

President Tinubu intervened and spared the governor, who was in a precarious position, according to Wike.

Recall that on Tuesday March 18, President Bola Tinubu announced a state of emergency in Rivers state due to the political crises and instability that has been plaguing the state.

Additionally, Tinubu placed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and other members of the Rivers assembly, under suspension for a term of six months.

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, who had previously served as Chief of Naval Staff, was also appointed by Tinubu to serve as the sole administrator for a period of six months.

On Thursday, March 20, the National Assembly adopted the proclamation and gave it its final approval.

During a media talk held in Abuja on Friday, Wike expressed his displeasure with the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers but acknowledged that it prevented the removal of Fubara.

Wike said, “As a politician, I am not happy about the state of emergency in Rivers State. I wanted the outright removal of Governor Fubara. The president, by declaring a state of emergency, saved Fubara.

“The governor was gone. He was gone, yes… so when people say the president did this, I say they should be praising him.

“Every morning, they should go to the president and ask, Can we wash your feet for saving us?”

Meanwhile, The suspended Governor Fubara, has been instructed by Udengs Eradiri, a former candidate for governorship of the Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa State, to petition Nyesome Wike to reduce the political tension in Rivers state.

Eradiri claimed that the situation in his state was created by the incompetence of Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, and he requested that the governor refrain from ethnicizing the standoff.

He said, “I advise Fubara to go and kneel before Wike and beg for forgiveness. Those, who are deceiving him have no balls. They go cap in hand kneeling and begging the same Wike when they get it they come in the open to claim ijaw lions.”
