The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its ambitious plan to reclaim political dominance in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to dislodge Labour Party’s Senator Ireti Kingibe and secure all federal and local seats in Abuja.

Speaking at a high-profile “Unity Rally” in Abuja on Thursday, the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, said the party had gained massive grassroots momentum and now controls over 60 percent of the FCT’s political structure, positioning it for a decisive victory in 2027.

The rally marked a significant turning point as the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Maikalangu was joined by all 12 of his ward councillors and over 20,000 supporters from various area councils including Bwari, Kuje, Abaji, Kwali, and Gwagwalada.

“This is not just another defection; this is a political revolution in the FCT,” Ganduje said. “Today, the entire AMAC leadership and thousands of foot soldiers have joined the Renewed Hope train. We are now poised to take over the only Senate seat, two House of Reps seats, and ensure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027.”

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, commended the wave of defections as a strong validation of the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He cited major infrastructure projects, improved security efforts, and energy reforms under President Tinubu as driving factors behind the growing support.

“People are seeing the results. Roads are being built, power projects are ongoing, and peace is gradually returning to parts of the country. This is why citizens are choosing APC,” Barau stated.

In a fiery speech, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello affirmed the APC’s preparedness for 2027, declaring that the presidential seat is secured for Tinubu’s re-election.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. President Tinubu is doing the work, and Nigerians will reward him with a second term. Our party is intact. Anyone thinking of running against us will simply be making noise,” Bello said.

He also emphasized the unity between current and former presidents, asserting that the APC remains Nigeria’s dominant political force.

Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party had stunned political analysts by clinching the FCT senatorial seat in 2023, defeating the APC in its traditional stronghold. Her victory was largely buoyed by the popularity of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who also defeated APC’s Bola Tinubu in both the FCT and Lagos.

However, Ganduje insisted that Kingibe’s win was a “flash in the pan” that would not repeat in 2027. “We are reorganized, reenergized, and reclaiming every lost ground. This is the end of Labour Party’s brief romance with the FCT,” he stated.

APC FCT Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman, said the party had already commenced grassroots mobilization across the six area councils and 62 political wards.

“Today’s mass defection is just the beginning. We are building a strong coalition that will sweep the polls. Our target is clear—win every elective position in the FCT,” Usman declared.

As 2027 draws closer, the battle for the FCT is shaping up to be one of the fiercest political contests. With Labour Party determined to retain its unexpected gains and the APC mobilizing aggressively to reclaim its dominance, political watchers predict an intense electoral season in Nigeria’s capital.
