The 2025 WASSCE examination will include 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools, comprising 979,228 males and 994,025 females
2025 WASSCE– Acomputer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is going to be administered for the very first time by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to educational candidates.
The Head of the Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, declared during a press briefing that took place on Thursday at the WAEC’s national office in Yaba, Lagos, that the digital examination represents a significant shift in the method that the council takes to assessment.
He also stated that the test is intended to improve efficiency and reduce misconduct.
Dangut said, “As an organization that believes in the use of modern Information and Communications Technology, we are excited to introduce Computer-based WASSCE for school candidates.
“From this year onwards, no two candidates will have the same questions, which is a significant step towards upholding academic integrity.
“Candidates’ question variants have already been pre-assigned. Writing a paper outside of your allocation is at your own risk.”
The 2025 examination will include 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools, comprising 979,228 males and 994,025 females. This signifies a rise in both male and female participants compared to previous years.
“The statistics indicate a continued growth in female participation, which is encouraging.”
To facilitate exam preparation, WAEC has introduced many digital resources, including the WAEC E-Study Portal, WAEC E-Learning Platform, and WAEC Konnect, which provide access to past questions, marking schemes, and performance analysis.
He warned parents and students to avoid using fraudulent websites that disseminate counterfeit exam materials, characterizing these actions as a peril to the future of education in Nigeria. WAEC is collaborating with law enforcement to dismantle these illegal networks.
“We are committed to decisively dealing with any form of examination fraud. The penalties for involvement in malpractice will be strictly enforced to maintain the integrity of our examinations.”
