Suspect admitted to many culpable homicides, armed robberies, and motorcycle and phone thefts.
The Kano State Police Command has accepted the surrender of a 20-year-old suspect in a spate of violent crimes in Kano and Jigawa States.
The suspect, Umar Auwal, alias ‘Abba Dujal,’ from Wudil, Kano State, admitted to many culpable homicides, armed robberies, and motorcycle and phone thefts.
SP Haruna Kiyawa, Kano State Command PPRO, said Auwal’s surrender followed intensified searches on criminal hideouts.
As part of ongoing efforts to restore law and order and protect lives and property, Kiyawa stated that these activities were a part of those efforts.
In Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano, Auwal acknowledged to stabbing a man who was commonly known as “Boka.” He also admitted to stealing the man’s Infinix Hot 40i smartphone, which he later attempted to sell for N40,000.
A second victim was killed at Kurna Quarters, and the suspect admitted to stealing a Samsung S26 phone, which he then sold for N160,000, and committing the murder.
According to the Public Prosecution Officer (PPRO), the suspect was being held at the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Command.
Detectives from the CID were actively conducting additional investigations in order to verify the suspect’s admissions and identify any additional potential criminals or collaborators.
CP Ibrahim Bakori, the Commissioner of Police for the state, expressed his admiration for the suspect’s choice to turn himself in and expressed his desire for other criminals operating within the state to follow in his footsteps.
In addition to this, he emphasized the Command’s intention to cleanse Kano of criminal elements.
According to the police, the public should continue to cooperate with security authorities by providing information that is both trustworthy and timely.
