During the invasion that took place on Tuesday in the Otobi community located in the Akpa region of the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, it was believed that a significant number of people had been killed.

While speaking with journalists over the phone, Edwin Emma, a resident of the Otobi Community, stated that the resumed attack resulted in the death of a significant number of people.

The resident said, “We are being attacked by herdsmen at Otobi community; my wife and children are fleeing from the community as I speak, please call for help.”

The herders reportedly invaded the town at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when the majority of locals had returned from their farms, according to another resident who just identified himself as Alechenu.

Alechenu stated that assailants, upon arriving at the community, began firing their weapons without discrimination at anyone who was visible and setting fire to their homes.

During the assault by the roving herders, Alechenu claims that an undetermined number of individuals were suspected to have been slain, and that numerous houses were set ablaze.

Kennedy Angbo, the member who represents the Otukpo-Akpa State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, confirmed the incident when he was called.

He stated that the attackers broke into the neighborhood at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In addition to those who were killed, hundreds of residents were fleeing the community out of fear.

However, Catherine Anene, the spokesman for the state police command, could not be reached for confirmation.
