There is a plan for the major political parties to come together and form a strong opposition, but it is not part of this visit

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led a group of prominent politicians on a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna on Friday.

A number of prominent figures, including Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, who had previously served as governor of Benue State, former Adamawa State governor Jibrilla Bindow, and former Sokoto State governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, accompanied the opposition leader on the visit.

Atiku revealed the visit on his social media accounts and gushed about his delightful time with Buhari, the former president.

Atiku Wrote, “As the Waziri Adamawa, I was obligated to be in Adamawa during the Sallah celebrations. I held forth for the Lamido Fombina (Adamawa) in some of the activities of the Sallah celebrations.

“Today, I had the opportunity to pay a post-Sallah visit to His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2015-2023.

“It was a wonderful time with him. As usual, he cracked me up (to the extent that my ribs were hurting) with his peculiar humour.”

On the other hand, several internet users saw the change as yet another attempt at reorganization of political parties in the run-up to the 2027 election.

Speaking with journalists, Atiku made it clear that the visit was purely for the purpose of celebrating Sallah and not for any negotiations regarding the planned alliance of political groups that is intended to establish a more powerful opposition.

Atiku said, “We came here on a courtesy and Sallah greetings visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“There is a plan for the major political parties to come together and form a strong opposition, but it is not part of this visit.”
