Despite being reduced to 10 men, Augsburg managed to beat Bochum 2-1 away from home. Mert Kömür’s late winner earned Augsburg a thrilling victory.

The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute through Samuel Essende, who received the ball from Alexis Claude-Maurice and fired a shot from just inside the box. Bernardo dived in an attempt to block it, but instead diverted the ball into his own net. “That one will taste sweet for the Toffees isn’t applicable here but” Bochum’s first real opportunity came in the 20th minute, with Felix Passlack hitting a powerful shot that narrowly missed the target.

Bochum finally found the equaliser around the hour mark, as Philipp Hoffmann’s powerful header found the back of the net. However, Augsburg’s hopes of regaining the lead took a hit 10 minutes from time when Arne Maier was sent off for a foul on Bernardo.

In the dying minutes, Bochum pushed for the win, but it was Augsburg who snatched the victory. Philip Tietz provided the assist for Mert Kömür, who netted the winning goal shortly after. “The win lifts Augsburg to eighth place, while Bochum remain in 17th, two points clear of Holstein Kiel but two points behind Heidenheim,”

The match stats highlighted Augsburg’s determination, with the visitors outscoring Bochum in the second half. Augsburg’s tactical change seemed to pay off as they managed to hold onto their lead despite being down to 10 men.

Augsburg’s victory sees them move up to eighth place in the Bundesliga table. Bochum, on the other hand, will be disappointed by their inability to capitalize on their chances and contain Augsburg’s potent substitutes.
