Former Super Eagles’ Coach Dies

Christian Chukwu, former captain and coach of Nigeria’s national football team, has died, as confirmed by his former teammate, Dr. Segun Odegbami MON, in a social media post.

Affectionately known as “Chairman,” Chukwu passed away in the early hours of today.

Chukwu was a key member of the Green Eagles, leading Nigeria to their first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 1980. His illustrious career also saw him coach the Kenyan national team in 1998 and later guide Nigeria to the semifinals of the 2004 AFCON from 2003 to 2005.

Additionally, he managed Enugu Rangers to a sixth-place finish in the 2008–2009 Nigeria Premier League.
