The Police Inspector jumped up in excitement multiple times. But after the final whistle, when everyone started leaving, Stephen wasn’t getting up like the rest of the people.

Stephen Enang, an Inspector of Police in Nigeria and a devoted supporter of the Arsenal football team, collapsed and passed away immediately after seeing Arsenal defeat Real Madrid, a Spanish powerhouse, by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, April 8.

Witnesses have stated that the deceased individual, who was a native of Ekori, which is located in the Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, and who was attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way in Calabar, was watching the match when he abruptly collapsed at that moment.

The witness said, “We were watching the match at a viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street. He was in great spirits, healthy, happy, cheering every goal. Arsenal scored the first, second, and third goals, and he was overjoyed.

“He jumped up in excitement multiple times. But after the final whistle, when everyone started leaving, we noticed Stephen wasn’t getting up like the rest of us. That’s when we realized something was wrong.”

The witness stated that Enang had become unconscious and had slumped in his seat the entire time.

He was taken to the Police Hospital in Akim without delay, where the medical staff made desperate efforts to bring him back to life; however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

People who knew him and his family have voiced their disbelief over the unexpected passing of the officer who passed away.

There has been no statement made by the State police command regarding the tragic event.
