A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced a make-up artist, Abdullahi Musa Huseini, also known as Amuscap, to six months imprisonment for abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency. Huseini pleaded guilty to a one-count charge bordering on Naira abuse, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC had received credible intelligence. It was about Huseini’s involvement in the deliberate mutilation (Naira Abuse) the Nigerian currency. He did this by spraying it at his wedding celebration. The agency arrested him and charged him to court.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Zarami Mohammed, presented the case facts. He also tendered evidence to support the charge. Huseini pleaded guilty to the charge, prompting the prosecution counsel to present the facts of the case and tender evidence before the court.
Justice S.M. Shuaibu found Huseini guilty and sentenced him to six months imprisonment without an option of fine. The sentence is a warning to those who deface or abuse the Nigerian currency.
