The rationale behind staging a nationwide protest on the same day is questionable and perceived to be a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the Nigeria Police.

“Take It Back Movement” has been encouraged by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to postpone its planned statewide protest that is set to take place on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The NPF has referred to the time of the demonstration as being both malicious and ill-conceived.

Police have voiced their concern on the protest, which is scheduled to take place in a number of states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to a statement that was issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

A day that is intended to recognize the devotion and resiliency of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, National Police Day was declared by the Federal Government on April 7th, and this date corresponds with that declaration.

The police questioned the rationale behind holding a protest on the same day as an official event celebrating the police, despite the fact that they acknowledged the fundamental right of individuals to peaceful assembly and association.

According to the statement, “the rationale behind staging a nationwide protest on the same day is questionable and perceived to be a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the Nigeria Police.”

It was stressed by the Force that the celebration of National Police Day will include the presence of dignitaries, such as international Inspectors-General of Police and diplomats, and that it is intended to commemorate the accomplishments of the police in terms of protecting national security.

NPF believes that conducting a demonstration on the same day as the event could diminish the significance of the event and cause damage to the reputation of the police and the nation as a whole.

The demonstration was described by the police as “ill-timed and mischievous,” and they made a plea to the organizers, urging them to reconsider their actions and investigate alternate methods that might be more beneficial.

The statement said, “We encourage the organizers and anyone planning to participate in the protest to pursue dialogue with the appropriate government institutions in order to address their concerns.”

In addition to reiterating its dedication to preserving the rule of law and protecting the rights of citizens, NPF has emphasized the importance of peaceful involvement and cooperation during situations that could potentially result in disruption.
