Six Dead, Nine Rescued in Taraba Boat Accident

Boat Accident occurred on the Jole River, and it resulted in the deaths of six people.

In the Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State, a boat accident occurred on the Jole River, and it resulted in the deaths of six people. Nine other passengers were rescued. The occurrence took place on Saturday, April 5th, 2025.

The boat was carrying fifteen people when it capsized in the middle of the river, according to sources within the police department. The bodies of six passengers were eventually recovered from the river after rescue operations led to the recovery of nine survivors.

The deceased have been identified as Dadi Mallam Dotti, who was thirty years old, Mubarak Abdu, who was twenty-one, Bappa Mallam Dotti, who was twenty, Adamu Yayagardi, who was thirty, and Madugu, who was twenty-two.

All of these individuals were from Badabdi, Funakaye Local Government Area, Gombe State, and they were members of the Terawa ethnic group.

A member of the Karakare ethnic group, Umar Gambo, who was 34 years old and lived in Zaura Ward, Damban Local Government Area, Bauchi State, was the sixth victim.

The person who was driving the boat is still believed to be at large, and there are ongoing efforts to locate him.

Search and recovery operations were carried out in conjunction with local divers and community volunteers, according to police sources.

Earlier this month, a head-on collision between two boats occurred at Akede community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Tuesday evening, April 1, 2025.

The incident involved a speed boat carrying passengers from Eropa community in Southern Ijaw which collided with a fishing boat.

Two people were killed and thirteen others are still missing as a result of the collision.
