In response to the rocket fire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a “strong response” to the attack. His office stated that Netanyahu instructed the Israeli military to deliver a severe strike on any area from which rockets are fired.

“The prime minister instructed to deliver a strong response. He approved the continuation of the intensified IDF operations in Gaza against Hamas,” his office said in a statement. It added that Netanyahu spoke to Defence Minister Israel Katz from his aeroplane. This occurred as he travelled to Washington
