The explosion was caused by a leaky gas cylinder injured 15 people, including children
The explosion of gas that occurred on Sunday at Ijora-Badia, Lagos State, resulted in the injuries of fifteen individuals, including children. Within the boundaries of the Apapa Iganmu Local Local Government Area, the event took place at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Amosu Street in Ijora Badia.
The explosion was caused by a leaky gas cylinder that weighed 25 kilograms and was located in a small shop.
The fire that broke out as it quickly spread to five more gas cylinders and consumed the entire building, which contained seven shops and a studio apartment with fifteen rooms.
In an effort to prevent the fire from spreading further, firefighters were successful in containing the blaze and evacuating the cylinders.
It has been confirmed by the Lagos State incident and Rescue Service that there were no fatalities recorded associated with the incident.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Director of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, stated that the gas leakage was caused by improper handling of products.
She also confirmed that the leaking cylinder was the source of the flame that was present in the vicinity prior to the explosion.
“Fifteen persons both adults and children sustained varying degrees of injuries. A number of the victims have been administered first aids and others have been taken to the hospital. It is however pertinent to state that none of the cases are life threatening.”
