Abure threatened to sanction Peter Obi and Alex Otti if they proceed with the “illegal” stakeholders meeting that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025.

Alex Oti, the governor of Abia State, and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in 2023, have been threatened with sanctions by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party (LP), which is led by Comrade Julius Abure.

The NEC has threatened to sanction them if they proceed with the “illegal” stakeholders meeting that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025.

Mr. Peter Obi, who is running for president of the party in the election of 2023, was also cautioned from engaging in any behavior or making any statements that might foster dissension within the party.

Anti-party activity from any member, “regardless of how highly placed they may be,” would no longer be tolerated, according to the leadership of the party.

Also, Afam Ogene, who had been serving as the leader of the party’s caucus in the House of Representatives, was removed from his position by the National Executive Committee of the People’s Liberation Party (LP NEC). He was replaced as leader by Barr. Ben Eternabene, who was nominated by the NEC.

These snide remarks were included in a communique that was delivered by the National Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Umar Farouk, at the conclusion of a meeting of the NEC that took place on Monday at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Farouk said, “NEC in session in the exercise of its duties, hereby caution the former presidential candidate of our great party not to participate in any action capable of undermining the peace unity, and integrity of the party as the NEC will not hesitate to issue a stiffer penalty if found culpable.

“Accordingly, NEC in session reaffirmed the Nnewi National Convention held on the 27th of March 2024 that produced the current National Working Committee (NWC) members under the chairmanship of Barrister Julius Abure.

“NEC in session condemn in strong terms the activities of the Caretaker Committee illegally established by Alex Otti and Peter Obi in a so-called Stakeholders meeting held on the 4th of September 2024 in Umuahia.

“The Supreme Court admonished party leaders and members of the party to always abide by the constitution of the party.

“NEC noted that Article 14 (4) (B) gives the power to call meetings only to the National Secretary with the approval of the National Chairman.

“Accordingly, “NEC warned all members to abide by the constitution of the party.”
