Emir Sanusi is expected to make an appearance before the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja on April 8
Muhammad Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has been officially asked by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to be questioned in connection with the violence that occurred during the Eid-el-Fitr procession that took place in Kano.
This violence resulted in the murder of a local vigilante member. The invitation came after a fatal incident that took place on the day of Eid, while the Emir’s entourage was making their way from the Eid prayer field to the palace in a traditional parade.
Surajo Rabiu, a member of the vigilante group, tragically lost his life as a result of the confrontation, which also resulted in one other person being injured.
On behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police who is in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, the invitation was communicated through an official letter that was dated April 4, 2025 and signed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye.

At ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Emir is expected to make an appearance before the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja, which is located directly across from the Police Headquarters in Neighborhood 11.
After the State Police Command had previously decided to prohibit the annual Durbar festival due to security concerns, this new development comes at a time when tensions in Kano State have been at an all-time high.
Over the Eid el-Fitr festival, the prohibition, which was issued a few days before the holiday, was designed to prevent any potential breakdown in law and order that might occur over the holiday season.
A motorcade parade of Emir Sanusi II was nevertheless held on the third day of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, despite the fact that the Durbar had been suspended by the government.
Additionally, the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) consisting of eight individuals was established by the Commissioner of Police for Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in order to examine the violence.
As at the time that this story was written, the palace of Emir Sanusi II had not yet provided an official answer to the invitation extended by the police.
