Community and the Police: Fostering Deeper Public Participation for Effective Service Delivery
In an effort to bring the community and the Gombe State Police Department closer together, the command of the Gombe State Police recently held a town hall meeting with interested parties.
A program themed, “Community and the Police: Fostering Deeper Public Participation for Effective Service Delivery” was part of the activities marking the maiden National Police Day celebration in the state, according to Bello Yahaya, the state commissioner of police, who addressed the gathering at Matrix School in Gombe.
According to him, the purpose of the gathering was to facilitate greater public-police cooperation in the areas of crime control and prevention, transparency, and trust.
The head of the police department assured the community that their opinions would be taken into consideration and stressed the importance of community involvement in order to have effective and responsive policing. He also promised to host similar meetings on a regular basis.
The event’s chairman, Muhammad Wakili, a former commissioner of police in Kano State, asked current and former officers to uphold the public’s trust and work together to make society safe by avoiding corruption and other unethical acts.
