Inviting Emir Sanusi on a flimsy excuse of violation of directives will not be accepted

The meeting between the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Over the Eid el-Fitr festival, the prohibition, which was issued a few days before the holiday, was designed to prevent any potential breakdown in law and order that might occur over the holiday season.

A motorcade parade of Emir Sanusi II was nevertheless held on the third day of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, despite the fact that the Durbar had been suspended by the government.

Surajo Rabiu, a member of the vigilante group, tragically lost his life as a result of the confrontation, which also resulted in one other person being injured.

Through a letter dated April 4 and signed by Olajide Ibitoye, a Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police invited Sanusi to visit the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Sanusi was sent a request from the Egbetokun to report to the headquarters of the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja by ten o’clock in the morning.

It is stated in the letter that the invitation is in connection with an incident that took place in Kano during the celebration of Sallah.

An invitation has been rejected by a number of Kano residents, who have characterized it as an attempt to provoke a crisis.

In an interview with Punch, one of the residents said, “We caution against these new strategic moves to set Kano ablaze and thereby create an avenue for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state. We strongly reject those moves.”

Another resident said, “what happened on Sallah Day was never in any way a Durbar but rather a movement of the Emir from mosque to his palace, and it is normal for him to ride a horse.

“Inviting Emir Sanusi on a flimsy excuse of violation of directives will not be accepted by all well-meaning Nigerians.”
