The duty to ensure that these facilities and infrastructure are in the best order.
Former Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, who is currently serving as the Administrator of Rivers State, has announced his intention to rebuild the majority of the vandalized infrastructure in the state within the constraints of the financial resources that are currently available.
During an on-the-spot inspection of several ongoing road projects, vandalized secretariats of Local Government Councils, and the recently inaugurated Bori Zonal Hospital, Ibas made the commitment. The inspection took place on Friday.
A statement to this effect was issued in a press release by the Government House.
Some of the road projects that were examined included the Zakphor-Bateem road and the Nyhokhana-Kenkhana road, both of which were located within the Khana Local Government Area. The Nyhokhana-Kenkhana road connected the Luuwa Community to the Baani Community.
The Eleme internal roads and drainage project, as well as the Eleme segment of the Port-Harcourt Ring road project, are two further projects.
An evaluation of the level of vandalism that had occurred at the Khana and Eleme Local Government Council Secretariats was also carried out by the administrator with the same purpose.
He said, “I think we owe the people that we are superintending over, the duty to ensure that these facilities and infrastructure are in the best order.
“We have made a commitment to fix most of the vandalised infrastructure with the limited resources that we have. It is a commitment that, I think we need to deliver to enable those who are using them to return to work.
“The more roads we have, the more commerce – I mean, the means of commuting becomes easy. We are trying to create wealth. Without roads, of course, sometimes, you have your produce, but before you move them to the marketplace, they are all rotten.
“But we also expect that when these roads are completed that those who are going to use them will also take care of the infrastructure.”
