
Elderstatesman Chief Victor Omololu Olunloyo Ph.D., a mathematician and politician who served as the governor of Oyo State for three months, has passed away.
Omololu Olunloyo was born on April 14, 1935. He would have turned 90 in days to come. Preparation for his birthday was ongoing before this unfortunate development. One of his children Kemi Olunloyo could not be reaching as of the time of filling this report.
Chief Omololu Olunloyo had a distinguished career in mathematics, graduating with a Ph.D.

Olunloyo’s political career was marked by his appointment as Commissioner for Economic Development for the Western Region in 1962. Later, he became governor of Oyo State in 1983. He held the position for only three months before being ousted by a military coup led by General Muhammadu Buhari.

Throughout his life, Olunloyo demonstrated a passion for mathematics, politics, and public service. Contributing to Nigeria’s development he was committed to education for all and good governance.

The family expressed both sorrow and gratitude. They stated, “With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat.” Dr. Olunloyo held titles such as Balogun of Oyo. He was also the Otun Bobasewa of Ife. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service.

The statement concluded with a call for public understanding as preparations begin for a fitting burial. The statement noted, “The Olunloyo family will appreciate the understanding of the press and the public.” They are commencing efforts to give him a befitting burial.” Quoting a spiritual sentiment, they added, “Even from everlasting to everlasting, He is God.”
