We must uphold fairness in local governance, and ensure that those who protect our forests are not neglected.

The suspension that had been placed on the councilor who represented Ajassor Ward in Etung Local Government Area has been lifted by the Cross River State House of Assembly and is now in effect.

Following the recommendations of a report that was presented before the plenary session of the House Committee on Local Government on Thursday, the councilor under suspension was restored to his position after being suspended for months due to charges of Misconduct.

Also during the plenary, the House of Representatives issued a call to the state government, requesting that it immediately pay the salaries and entitlements of Forest Rangers who were hired nine months ago but have not yet received any compensation.

Both the Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry and the Office of the Accountant General were urged to take immediate action by the motion, which gained widespread support.

Elvert Ayambem, the Speaker of the House of Assembly in Cross River State, stated in a statement that the House continues to be dedicated to the principles of openness, good administration, and the comprehensive welfare of all citizens.

He said, “Our resolutions today are in the best interest of Cross Riverians. We must uphold fairness in local governance, and ensure that those who protect our forests are not neglected. The House will always stand for justice and accountability.”
