Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has risen one spot in the latest men’s rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
The West African squad advanced from 44th to 43rd position globally in the first men’s ranking update of the year.
Despite the international improvement, the Super Eagles, led by coach Eric Chelle, slipped to sixth place among African nations. Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire continue to lead the continent’s football hierarchy.
The team’s recent performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers last month showcased their potential. The Super Eagles secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. However, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe’s Warriors on home soil at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Globally, reigning world champions Argentina retained their position at the summit of the rankings. Spain, France, England, and Brazil also maintained their spots in the coveted top five.
