In the beginning of October 2023, they approached me with a bribe of N5 billion -Ehie

Mr. Edison Ehie, who serves as the Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been suspended, has come forth with allegations that he was promised N5 billion to organize the impeachment of his principal.

Yesterday, Fubara made a commitment to continue protecting the interests of the Rivers people. Even though President Bola Tinubu announced a state of emergency and suspended him, Fubara has committed to protect state residents. He assured residents that the state’s political problems will empower them.

Fubara said, “Their goal is to create problems and deny people their means of livelihood. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to ensure that our state remains a model for others in Nigeria.”

At his residence in Port Harcourt, he hosted Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and made this statement during an Eid-el-Fitri visit.

Ehie asserted that he has evidence of the bribe offer stored on his phone while he was appearing on the Sunday Politics program that is broadcast on Channels Television.

Ehie said, “I can also open my phone to show you, in the beginning of October 2023, when they approached me with a bribe of N5 billion. It is here in my phone.

“It was for impeachment. It’s here. I have it and I have printed it and distributed it, in case, in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother.”

It was during Ehie’s tenure as the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly that the offer was made, according to Ehie.

In addition, he refuted allegations that he was the mastermind behind the bombing of the Rivers Assembly complex on October 30, 2023, while Fubara was in charge of the operation.

George Nwaeke, who had previously served as the Head of Service in the state made the claim that he was present at the Government House when a bag of money was given to Ehie in order to carry out the operation.

Ehie said, “It is very important to clarify that I had no hand and was not part of the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Like everyone else, I woke up in the early hours of October 30, 2023 to hear of the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In addition, he asserted that Nwaeke had approached him on the same day that he resigned from his position as head of service in order to receive financial assistance.
