Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has advised residents planning to travel for the 2025 Hajj to prioritize their health and refrain from embarking on the pilgrimage if they are ill. The governor’s statement came during the First Family of Lagos State and the Ministry of Home Affairs Eid-el-Fitr celebration, held at the Lagos House, Marina.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of good health for those intending to travel to Mecca, saying, “By May, those travelling to Mecca will begin to travel. Please ensure you are in good health. If you are ill, refrain from travelling for 2025 Hajj, stay back and pray here in Nigeria.” This advice is crucial, considering the large crowds and physical demands associated with the Hajj pilgrimage.

The governor also congratulated Muslims on the conclusion of their month-long Ramadan fast, praying that God would continue to keep them in peace and unity. He expressed gratitude to religious leaders for teaching the community about the holy book and wished everyone more celebrations in good health.

Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the governor’s wife, appealed to Lagos residents to show compassion to the less privileged in their communities. She emphasized that true worship goes beyond rituals and reflects on how individuals treat one another and contribute to the betterment of their state and nation.

Other dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Commissioner for Home Affairs Ibrahim Layode, urged residents to maintain empathy, compassion, and faith in the Almighty’s goodness. The guest speaker, Dr. Munirudeen Ar-Riyardy, advised Nigerians to avoid sin to attract God’s grace and benevolence.

The event highlighted the importance of community and compassion, with leaders emphasizing the need for residents to look out for one another. As the Muslim community celebrates Eid-el-Fitr, these messages of unity and kindness are particularly relevant.
