The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed confidence that Nigerians have the capacity to defeat corruption through collective determination and commitment. In his goodwill message to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Fitr across the country, Olukoyede emphasized the importance of courageous readiness and corporate commitments in tackling economic and financial crimes.

EFCC chairman Olukoyede reaffirmed the nation’s ability to overcome corruption, stating, “Nigerians are stronger than corruption. No corrupt act can break our common resolve and determination. We have all it takes to confront and conquer economic and financial crimes.” This statement echoes the EFCC’s commitment to combating corruption and promoting transparency in Nigeria.

The EFCC chair urged Muslims to internalize the lessons of Ramadan—self-denial, discipline, sacrifice, love, and purity—and channel them into a renewed commitment to shun corrupt practices. He emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in combating corruption, stating, “I congratulate Muslims and charge them to allow lessons of self-denial, discipline, sacrifice, love, and purity of the Ramadan season imbued in them greater readiness and commitment to shun corrupt practices.”

Olukoyede assured Nigerians that the anti-corruption war remains on course, stating that the EFCC is gaining momentum in its efforts to curb economic and financial crimes. The EFCC has been instrumental in investigating and prosecuting high-profile corruption cases in Nigeria, and its efforts have led to significant recoveries of stolen assets.

The EFCC’s efforts in combating corruption are not limited to Nigeria. The commission has collaborated with international organizations and law enforcement agencies to track and recover stolen assets, and to bring corrupt individuals to justice. This international cooperation is crucial in combating transnational corruption and promoting global transparency.

The EFCC chair’s statement on the possibility of a corruption-free Nigeria is a welcome development. It emphasizes the importance of collective effort and individual responsibility in combating corruption. As Nigeria continues to grapple with the challenges of corruption, it is essential that citizens, government agencies, and international organizations work together to promote transparency and accountability.
