Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has announced the formation of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 23rd National Sports Festival, set to take place in Enugu in 2026.
The carefully selected committee members were chosen for their exceptional competence, excellence, and contributions to the sports sector, according to the governor.
Leading the LOC will be Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jr., the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, who will serve as chairman. The committee comprises a diverse group of seasoned sports administrators, including former world-class athlete Mary Onyali, respected sports management expert and ex-badminton champion Bamiduro Olumide as General Secretary, and accomplished sports lawyer Aku Aghazu.
Other notable members include Victor Okorie, an elite athletes’ representative from the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Blessing Chisalam Ekwe, COO of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria and a FIFA-licensed agent, and Davidson Owumi, a highly experienced sports administrator currently serving as COO of the Nigeria Professional Football League and former General Manager of Enugu Rangers FC.
Governor Mbah expressed full confidence in the committee’s ability to organize and deliver an outstanding National Sports Festival, citing their individual and collective qualities.
