Villarreal secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Getafe in a captivating La Liga encounter at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. The Yellow Submarine’s triumph was built on a solid first-half performance, with goals from Arnaut Danjuma’s replacement, Alex Baena, and Tiago Barry.

Getafe’s Carles Pérez opened the scoring against his former team in the 29th minute, but Villarreal’s response was swift. Alex Baena equalized just six minutes later, and Tiago Barry sealed the win four minutes after that.

Villarreal’s manager, Quique Setién, praised his team’s resilience and adaptability. “We knew it was going to be a tough match, but we showed great character and determination to get the three points,” he said.

Getafe’s coach, José Bordalás, rued his team’s missed opportunities. “We created chances, but we didn’t take them. Villarreal were more clinical, and that made the difference,” he lamented.

The statistics reflected Villarreal’s dominance, with 56% possession and 359 completed passes to Getafe’s 432. However, Getafe had more shots on goal, with 11 attempts to Villarreal’s 9.

Despite the loss, Getafe’s Carles Pérez was pleased with his team’s effort. “We gave it our all, but sometimes it doesn’t go your way. We’ll keep working and try to bounce back in the next match,” he said.
