The reports of sighting the new moon was duly verified and authenticated by the Sultanate Council Moon Committee.
Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, has made the announcement that the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH has been observed.
The declaration was made by Abubakar in a special broadcast held in his palace in Sokoto on Saturday night. The broadcast was directed toward the Muslim Ummah.
As a result of reports that were received by the moon sighting committee from traditional Muslim leaders and organizations located all throughout the nation, he stated that the new moon was observed in a number of different regions of the country.
He said, “The reports of sighting the new moon was duly verified and authenticated by the Sultanate Council Moon Committee.
“Consequent upon this, tomorrow Sunday, 30th March 2025 become the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH and the day of the Eid el Fitr.”
The Sultan encouraged Muslims to put into practice the teachings they had learned throughout the season of fasting when they were fasting.
In an effort to foster the socioeconomic growth of Nigeria, Sultan Abubakar urged the people of the country to maintain their peaceful coexistence with one another on a daily basis. In addition, he urged Muslims to keep praying for the nation and officials at all levels of government.
