The Sallah celebration that took place on Sunday morning along the Malumfashi-Kafur road in Katsina State was overshadowed by a vehicle accident that resulted in the deaths of in excess of nine individuals.

The incident was a “lone accident,” according to Aliyu Ma’aji, the Katsina Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who confirmed the incident. The collision included a Hummer bus that was transporting twenty passengers.

He said, “Nine passengers died on the spot while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.’ Preliminary investigations attributed the crash to “speeding and loss of control.”

In addition, he emphasised the importance of drivers exercising caution and cautioning them against driving recklessly, overloading their vehicles, and speeding, particularly during holiday seasons.

He also mentioned that reckless driving continues to be a significant contributor to fatal accidents in Katsina, despite the efforts of the State Government to enhance the underlying road infrastructure.
