The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will not tolerate any form of unlawful killings or extrajudicial actions under any guise.
Uromi MOB Attack – Widespread outrage and appeals for justice have been prompted as a result of the unfortunate incident that took place on Thursday along Uromi/Obajana road in Edo State.
In connection with the barbaric execution of 16 travelers and the torching of their truck in Udune Efandion, the Edo State Police Command has conducted an arrest of 14 suspects.
Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), issued a statement condemning the brutal attack that was carried out by a local vigilante group against travellers who were suspected of being kidnappers. The statement was delivered by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The victims, who were traveling in a truck, insisted that they were hunters, but they were discovered to be in possession of nineteen (19) firearms that had been manufactured locally.
As a result of the vigilantes’ dissatisfaction with their answer, they accused them of being criminals and subjected them to mob justice, which ultimately led to tragic outcomes.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Edo State Police Command moved rapidly to deploy officers in order to restore order in the community that was impacted. During the ongoing manhunt for additional individuals who may have been engaged in the incident, fourteen (14) suspects have been apprehended.
DIG Sadiq Abubakar of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has been given the responsibility of taking over the investigation by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in order to guarantee a comprehensive and impartial probe. A reassurance was given to the general public by the chief of police that those responsible will be dealt with.
The statement read, “The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will not tolerate any form of unlawful killings or extrajudicial actions under any guise.”
Citizens are asked to remain calm and enable law enforcement personnel to conduct the investigation professionally, according to the IGP.
Furthermore, IGP cautioned against jungle justice and emphasized that it is still a crime in Nigeria to own firearms without a valid license.
Also, individuals in possession of an unlicensed firearm should turn it in at the local station or get a license. The NPF has stated its intention to punish the perpetrators of the mob violence to the maximum extent possible.
Nigerians are angry because of the way kidnappers operate everyday, people are Hungry and broke, they just passed the aggression to the innocent travellers. Jungle justice is bad, but police should do something about kidnappers, the case is too much. They will collect ransom and still kill the person. They country is not safe and there’s no where to run to
