In the palace, there are 192 families living within and among them, you would see a man with over 50 children, how can he cater for them?

Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, the Emir of Zazzau, has recommended men who are not financially stable to not marry more than one wife in order to raise responsible families.

This advice comes in light of the worsening economic hardships that are occurring in the country. As a result of the heads of families failing to fulfill their responsibilities, the monarch expressed his regret that polygamy is causing families to become more and more fractured.

The emir stated that just because Islam allows men to have more than one wife, it does not necessarily indicate that every man is able to provide for his dependents.

The Emir said, “In the palace, there are 192 families living within and among them, you would see a man with over 50 children, how can he cater for them?”

He made this statement during the closing ceremony of the 30th edition of the annual Ramadan lecture that is held by the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN).

An Islamic curriculum review was requested by the Emir in order to incorporate the Islamic rights of girls into the Islamiyya educational system. Through this, he believes that the narrative will be altered, and better societies will be constructed.

A young woman who was sentenced to two years in prison for not paying a debt of N6,000 was the example that he used to illustrate his accusation that judges are contributing to the problems that exist in society.

The use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in marriage issues, inheritance conflicts, and land disputes is something that the palace continues to do. He added that the issues are the bane of many families.

Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, the deputy governor of Kaduna State, asked the Ulama to encourage the men to take up the responsibilities that God has given them within their respective roles.

Hadiza said, “There is the need for our Ulama to encourage men to take up their responsibilities at the home front because it has been discovered that most responsibilities are now taken up by the women.”
