In a thrilling match at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Nigeria’s Super Eagles breathed new life into their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with a decisive 2-0 win against Rwanda.

The victory, secured by a first-half double from Galatasaray loanee Victor Osimhen, marked the three-time African champions’ first triumph in the qualification series on matchday five and the first time they would be defeating Rwanda away from home.

The Super Eagles’ success on Friday lifts them to fourth place in Group C, accumulating 6 points. The match also saw Franco-Malian manager Éric Chellé take charge of the Nigerian side for the first time, guiding them from the sidelines.

Elsewhere in Group C, South Africa solidified their lead at the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over neighboring Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. This result boosts South Africa’s tally to 10 points, cementing their position as group frontrunners.

Looking ahead, Nigeria will host Zimbabwe in their next fixture on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
