Nigeria’s top-ranked fencer, Inkosi Brou, will lead a seven-member team to the World Junior Fencing Championships in Wuxi, China, scheduled for April 7-15, as announced by the Nigeria Fencing Federation.

Brou, currently ranked 22nd in the junior category by the International Fencing Federation, has had a busy year competing in various tournaments, aiming to become the first Nigerian to qualify for the Olympic Fencing event.

Joining Brou is home-based fencer Wisdom Okanlawon, a rising star in African fencing, who will attend the pre-tournament training camp featuring some of the world’s top coaches.

Peluola Akinbamiro, a US-based fencer who debuted for Nigeria at the recent African Junior Championships in Angola, is also set to compete in Wuxi and hopes to make her mark on the international stage and secure a path toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a goal she shares with Brou.

The team will also feature the Idongesit siblings—Mahadi, Mahathir, and Sara—who are poised to make their long-anticipated debut for Nigeria at the championships. Rounding out the squad is Somto Eribenne, who will compete for the first time in 2025, looking to boost her world ranking through this prestigious event.
