The apology was presented by Kanu to the new trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, through Chief Agabi, Kanu’s lead attorney.
On Friday, March 21, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu apologized to the Federal High Court and Justice Binta Nyako for his recent verbal insults.
Kanu, through his new counsel and former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, also expressed his regrets to Chief Awomolo, SAN, who is the attorney for the Federal Government.
In addition, the leader of IPOB expressed his regret to his team of attorneys, which had been led by Aloy Ejimakor, for attacking them during the course of proceeding before Justice Nyako.
The apology was presented by Kanu to the new trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, through Chief Agabi, Kanu’s lead attorney.
Agabi requested permission from the court to deliver a message on Kanu’s behalf when the trial was restarted. He stated that he had already reviewed the development with the attorney representing the prosecution, and Justice Omotosho had allowed the application.
Before the new trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, Agabi extended the apologies on behalf of Kanu. According to him, Kanu had been fuming for quite some time.
They also expressed regret to Awomolo and the rest of the prosecution team, as well as the chairman of the Body of Benchers, whom they greatly respect. Agabi elaborated by saying that Kanu was a decent man and that people just can’t have same views.
Agabi emphasized the importance of allowing for mistakes and focusing on saving rather than destroying. While acknowledging the apologies, the prosecution stated their intention to work towards a speedy case hearing. Awomolo expresses his gratitude for the energy that Kanu and the subject matter bring.
The date of Kanu’s trial was set for March 21 by Justice Omotosho. The date was decided upon by the judge when the case file was handed over to him.
IREPORT247NEW reported that it was decided by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), that he will defend himself in court when his trial starts on March 21, 2025 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a statement that was released by Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel Kanu, shared this information.
Kanu’s decision to represent himself is intended to ensure that he receives a fair hearing without the delays that have been caused by the legal process in his case.
The statement read, “On Friday, 21 March 2025, when the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu resumes before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court Abuja, he will be taking the bold step of defending himself in court.
“The absence of traditional legal representation will dismantle the usual, ‘as my lord pleases’ constraints that govern judicial proceedings in Nigeria, that has for decades allowed the courts to brazenly subvert the cause of justice under a cloak of deference that shield rather than expose injustice.
“The very foundations of the institutional bias that has long plagued this case will be laid bare for the world to see.
“This decision by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu comes on the heels of successfully forcing the recusal of Justice Binta Nyako who brazenly defied the Supreme Court of Nigeria through her selective implementation of the termination contained in their judgment.
“She was hell-bent on convicting a person for exercising a right that the laws of Nigeria stated unambiguously that he could.
