The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Sokoto State chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the State Ministry of Sports Development to enhance the growth of sports in the state. This renewed commitment was made during a courtesy visit to the commissioner, where SWAN Chairman, Umar Kware, emphasized the association’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with the ministry.
Kware commended the commissioner, Engineer Mustapha Muhammad, for his transformative efforts in revitalizing sports within a short period of assuming office. He also extended his condolences to the ministry over the recent loss of a staff member, offering prayers for eternal rest.
In his remarks, Comrade Kabiru Gobirawa applauded the commissioner’s visionary leadership, noting that the visit was in line with the directives of SWAN’s national headquarters to foster sports development in Sokoto. The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria was established in 1964 as the Sports Writers Association of Lagos State and has since grown into a national body representing sports journalists across Nigeria.
Responding, the State Commissioner for Sports Development acknowledged the crucial role of sports journalists in promoting and analyzing sports activities. He described them as the vital bridge between athletes and the general public, ensuring that sports achievements and developments are well communicated.
“The way you analyze and promote sports makes people within the community develop more interest in sports,” the commissioner stated. “Your role is invaluable to the ministry, and we appreciate your efforts. We will continue to foster a strong relationship with SWAN to ensure the smooth and effective promotion of sports in Sokoto.”
The meeting reinforced the mutual understanding between SWAN and the ministry, paving the way for enhanced sports coverage, athlete promotion, and overall sports development in Sokoto State. With this renewed partnership, sports enthusiasts in Sokoto can expect more exciting developments in the world of sports.
