Horror Car Crash*

West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has spoken publicly about the horrific car crash that left him with a shattered leg, revealing he came close to dying in the accident.

*The Accident*

The Jamaica international required surgery after crashing his Ferrari into a tree on December 7. In an interview with the BBC, Antonio recalled the moments leading up to the crash, saying:

“All I know is that I hit a tree. I don’t know how I hit a tree, that the police came and when they found me in the car, I was in between the two seats.”

*Recovery Ahead of Schedule*

The 34-year-old, who also had a serious car accident in 2019, broke his femur bone in four places. However, he revealed that his recovery is three months ahead of schedule:

“I’m a good three months ahead of where I should be. I’ve lifted 130 kilograms on the leg, and I’m trying to do other things and just focus on myself.”

*Confident of Returning to the Pitch*

Antonio expressed his confidence in making a full recovery and returning to the pitch:

“I’m 100 percent (certain) that I’ll be back on the pitch. This is what I’m focused on.”

*Mental Trauma*

The forward admitted that he had sought therapy to cope with the mental trauma of the crash:

“Physically I’m getting better, but mentally trauma lasts a long time. So, there is always going to be periods and going to be times where something’s going to affect me.”

*Gratitude and Determination*

Antonio paid tribute to West Ham for their support during his recovery and acknowledged that he was embarrassed by the crash:

“Obviously, I’ve almost died in the car crash. It just made me slightly embarrassed that it was that bad.”

As Antonio continues his recovery, he remains focused on making a successful return to the pitch, determined to put the horror of the car crash behind him.
